Animal Caretaker Intern

Intern needed to serve as head animal caretaker for both the Biology and Psychology
departments and the Neuroscience program.

Responsibilities include:
  • daily care of primates and coordinating care for primates,
  • rodents and birds (feeding/watering),
  • regular cage cleaning,
  • maintenance of animal facilities,
  • breeding of animals (as needed),
  • record-keeping,
  • and training assistant animal caretakers and IS students in animal care/handling techniques.

Caretaker may also participate in student and/or faculty research as well as assist in laboratory exercises involving live animals. The caretaker will work 40 hours/week beginning June 2010.
Caretaking and coordinating duties will extend to weekends and holidays, though vacation time is available.

Qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree and experience working with and caring for small animals. In addition, strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills are a must. A working knowledge of statistics, various computer programs (Word, SPSS, Excel) and experience with animal research is preferred along with a self-starting attitude.
