Behavioral Neuroscience Lab Technician and K-12 Outreach Coordinator

This full-time position is divided into two separate sets of responsibilities.  60% of your effort will be dedicated to coordinating and running experiments in the behavioral neuroscience lab of Dr. Michael Burman for a recently funded 3-year NIH grant studying the neurological mechanisms underlying juvenile anxiety in rats.  This position involves coordinating, scheduling, supervising, and training undergraduate students, helping with budget keeping and supply ordering, and conducting behavioral and bench neuroscience experiments using rodent models.

The other 40% of the position involves assisting with the Center for Excellence in Neuroscience’s K-12 outreach efforts.   UNE has an active program taking student volunteers into the local school system to teach about the brain and nervous system.  In this capacity, the successful applicant will assist Dr. Burman and student volunteers with the creation and dissemination of content modules aimed at teaching neuroscience topics to K-12 students.   The applicant will also coordinate outreach visits to schools with their staff and schedule our volunteers.  Finally, this person is responsible for seeking external support via grant writing to ensure the continuation of this position beyond 1 year. 

Bachelor’s degree required.  Previous laboratory experience encouraged.
