<!--StartFragment--> The research technician will maintain a developmental neurobiology lab, design and execute experiments in the tadpole and zebrafish embryos, and assist the postdoc and students in Dr. Barbara Lom's lab in all aspects of the laboratory's research efforts.

Essential Functions    
Provide technical support to ensure productive laboratory research by all lab members.
Execute semi-independent research projects with the advice and supervision of Dr. Lom.
Regularly fertilize and rear Xenopus and zebrafish embryos
Microinject dyes, DNA constructs, and/or pharmacological agents into precise regions of developing embryos.
Produce and maintain primary cultures of Xenopus neurons.
Analyze neuronal morphology with various light microscopy techniques and digital imaging software.
Manage and operate a confocal microscope imaging system, which is a shared resource in the life sciences.
Purchase and stock consumable materials and equipment required for laboratory research.
Make solutions, clean glassware, and coordinate waste disposal.
Maintain and organize data and keep a detailed and accurate laboratory notebook of all experimental results and protocols.
Maintain laboratory equipment as needed.
Manage safety issues in the laboratory to ensure a clean and safe working environment.
Supervise, schedule, train, assist, and recruit undergraduate research assistants and work-study student(s).
Assist Dr. Lom with preparation of manuscripts and/or grant proposals.
Set up and assist with experiments conducted by undergraduates in Biology 351- Group Investigation: Microscopy & Imaging in Neuroscience.  

Required Qualifications    
Bachelor's degree in a life science (preferably biology and/or neuroscience) with at least three months of full-time laboratory research experience. Knowledge of basic principles of developmental biology and neurobiology required. Basic computing skills, light microscopy skills, and ability to manipulate small objects under a stereomicroscope required. Experience with laboratory techniques in developmental biology and/or neuroscience strongly preferred. Experience with tadpoles and/or zebrafish embryos helpful. Excellent interpersonal, trouble-shooting, organizational, and communication skills also required.
