COURSE DESCRIPTION: NEUR 499 is a special topics course exploring the mathematical basis of neurophysiology. We will consider the analytical foundations for the resting membrane potential, action potential, synaptic functioning, neural networks. Applications will be discussed in relation to medical imaging and treatment.
This course is designed for upper-division Biology, Biomedical Engineering, Cognitive Science, Engineering, Mathematics and Neuroscience students with an interest in the intersection of their discipline with Quantitative Neurophysiology. The course does not require students to be an expert in all of the above fields but they need to have upper- division standing at least one of the listed fields. PREREQUISITE: Grade of C- or better in Calculus I
