Research Lab Tech
This is a research laboratory technician position in a neuroscience laboratory. The principal investigator is a junior faculty physician-scientist building an independent research program. The candidate will perform experiments investigating the long-lasting effects of trauma, such as severe medical illness, on the brain and behavior.
The majority of time will be spent independently performing experiments including rodent behavior, injections, rodent surgery, histology, in situ hybridization, immunohistochemistry, tissue collection, and hormone assays. The job will include some data organization and potentially data analysis. The candidate should have a flexible work schedule and willingness to work on some weekends. The job may also include supervising students. There will be some administrative responsibilities, such as ordering laboratory supplies and organizing and maintaining financial records.
Exceptional organizational skills and reliability are essential, as well as the ability to work well with others. The applicant must have facility with Microsoft Office suite software and proficiency in English, prior experience with rodent research, and a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a related discipline. The applicant should have at least 2 years of relevant laboratory experience with good references.
Masters or PhD in a related field. Familiarity with software including Ethovision, Prism, SPSS. Prior experience with in situ hybridization, histology, rodent behavior, and rodent surgery including stereotactic surgery is desired. Recent graduates looking to strengthen their credentials for neuroscience graduate school or MD/PhD application are encouraged to apply, as are applicants seeking more long-term employment. Salary will be commensurate with experience.
The possibility of under filling this position at the Research Laboratory Technician Associate title is possible and will be determined based upon the experience of the applicant.
