Non-tenure track Assitant Professor
The Department of Neurobiology at UAB invites applications for a non-tenure-earning track Neuroscience teaching position at the rank of Assistant Professor. The Department is recruiting an outstanding educator who will teach undergraduate cognitive and behavioral Neuroscience courses as well as assist with Undergraduate Neuroscience Program advising of students. A prior track record of teaching and administrative experience as well as research knowledge will be an important criterion for the successful applicant.
UAB is a research-intensive university, with annual research expenditures exceeding $562 million and ranked in the top 10 among public universities for NIH funding. The Department of Neurobiology is entering its 21st year as a well-funded department at UAB. Faculty are housed in custom-designed laboratories and offices in the Shelby Interdisciplinary Biomedical Research Building and nearby Civitan International Research Center. The department has strengths in the molecular mechanisms of neuronal function, synaptic communication and plasticity, and animal models of disease. Faculty use technical approaches spanning molecular, genetic, cellular, systems, and behavioral levels of analysis including animal and human models. The Department of Neurobiology provides competitive start-up packages, substantial salary support, modern laboratory space, excellent core facilities, and extensive opportunities for collaborative research and participation in undergraduate, graduate, and medical training programs. UAB is strongly committed to neuroscience education.  The department is expanding rapidly under new leadership. A broad and collegial environment for neuroscience research is facilitated by the UAB Comprehensive Neuroscience Center, a network of over 200 basic, translational and clinical faculty from 23 departments.

Successful candidates must have a Ph.D. and/or M.D. in a related field and a strong record of teaching and administrative experience. Women and minority candidates are especially encouraged to apply.
