Requirements

As part of a four-faculty line expansion, the Department of Biology at SLU is seeking applications for a full-time tenure-track faculty position in Neuroscience at the level of the Assistant or Associate Professor, starting in the 2023-24 academic year.  The Department welcomes applications from candidates, particularly those from diverse and traditionally underrepresented backgrounds, addressing fundamental questions in areas including, but not limited to, developmental neuroscience, neurophysiology, neuroendocrinology, neurochemistry, neuroinflammation, and/or neurodegeneration. This position will include a secondary appointment in the Neuroscience Program, an undergraduate degree program that is jointly administered by the Departments of Biology and Psychology.

The successful candidate is expected to establish a vigorous, externally funded research program that engages and trains graduate (M.S. and Ph.D.) students and undergraduate students (B.A. and B.S.) in modern approaches to neuroscience research. The person will contribute to the teaching missions of both the Neuroscience Program and Biology Department in neuroscience and more broadly in cellular and/or molecular biology. Teaching responsibilities may include the development of undergraduate and graduate courses, as well as the advising and mentoring of students.

Excellent facilities and a competitive start-up package are provided, and opportunities are available to collaborate with researchers in the Henry and Amelia Nasrallah Center for Neuroscience, including faculty in the Psychology Department and SLU’s nearby Health Science Center, as well as researchers at other local universities.

We are seeking candidates with expertise in mentoring students from historically excluded groups, and who have a demonstrated commitment to racial justice.

Candidates must have:

  • A doctoral degree in biology, neuroscience, or related area, and postdoctoral experience.
  • The ability to work and engage effectively with diverse students and faculty.
  • A record of research productivity.
  • Demonstrated experience in diversity, equity and inclusion.

When prompted to upload your Resume/CV on the "My Experience" page, we ask that applicants submit the following documents:

  • Cover letter (should list at least three references with contact information)
  • Updated curriculum vitae
  • Statement of research accomplishments and future research plans
  • Statement of teaching and mentoring philosophy
  • Diversity, equity, and inclusion statement

Please have three letters of reference sent to: Laurie Shornick (Neuroscience Search) c/o biology@slu.edu, or Department of Biology, Saint Louis University, 3507 Laclede Avenue, St. Louis, MO, 63103-2010. Or include a list of references available upon request.

Application review will begin December 1 and continue until the job is filled.
