Assistant Professor of Neuroscience
The Department of Psychological Science and Neuroscience in the College of Sciences and Mathematics at Belmont University in Nashville (TN) is seeking applications for a tenure track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning August 1st, 2024.

Job responsibilities include twelve hours of undergraduate teaching per semester as well as other departmental, college, and university professional responsibilities, including academic advising, student mentoring, scholarly activity, and service. Candidates must be committed to superior teaching, and teaching responsibilities will include Introduction to Neuroscience for majors, General Neuroscience as a general education course, Neurobiology, Research Methods, General Psychology, and other elective and/or laboratory courses depending on the candidate's interests and training background. As all Belmont undergraduates complete an innovative general education program with significant interdisciplinary components, Belmont University is particularly seeking applicants who can demonstrate the interest and ability to work collaboratively in course design and to teach interdisciplinary and topical courses in this program.

In addition to teaching courses, candidates are expected to engage in scholarly activity and the supervision of independent undergraduate research in an empirically-oriented department with 75 neuroscience majors and additional minors. Paid summer research and teaching opportunities are available to further scholarship and/or training activities. Student-lead projects are presented yearly at conferences, including Society for Neuroscience and Cognitive Neuroscience Society. At Belmont, a variety of scholarly productivity is valued, including the scholarship of teaching, discovery, integration, and application.

This position will eventually lead to leadership opportunities as neuroscience program director. The exact experimental neuroscience focus for this position is open, as well as the model used (human, rodent, computational, etc.). There is strong interest in individuals with a background in cellular and/or molecular techniques, as well as those with computational and modeling techniques in the neurosciences. For additional information about the position, email co-chairs of the search committee Carole Scherling (carole.scherling@belmont.edu) and Tim Schoenfeld (timothy.schoenfeld@belmont.edu).

Applicants must have either earned a Ph.D. in any area of neuroscience, psychology, biology, or related fields, or are expected to complete all Ph.D. requirements by August 2024; teaching experience and/or postdoctoral experience is strongly preferred. To complete the online application, candidates are directed to

Separate Teaching and Research Statements will be requested of eligible applicants after they apply. Review of applications will begin immediately, with full consideration being given to those submitted by September 15th, 2023.
