About Founded in 1833, Oberlin is a private four-year, selective liberal arts college near Cleveland, Ohio and is also home to an outstanding Conservatory of Music. Together, the two divisions enroll approximately 2900 students. Oberlin College was the first college in the US to make interracial education and co-education central to its mission. The College continues to view a diverse, equitable and inclusive educational environment as essential to the excellence of its academic program. The Neuroscience Department is one of the oldest and largest programs of its kind at any liberal arts college in the country, with extensive facilities and equipment. Responsibilities The incumbent will teach a total of five courses across two semesters. This includes upper-level lecture and laboratory courses, a capstone seminar, introductory neuroscience, and non-majors courses. Most courses can be specialized to center on the incumbent’s area of expertise as long as the topic area complements current offerings in the department. The Department and the College support and encourage interdisciplinary work; therefore, an ideal candidate’s work could attract students from outside the discipline, including those in affiliated departments as well as those in the arts and humanities.
Qualifications Among the qualifications required for appointment is a Ph.D. degree in Neuroscience or a related area (in hand or expected by first semester of academic year 2024). Candidates must demonstrate interest and potential excellence in undergraduate teaching. Successful teaching experience at the college level is desirable. Inclusion and diversity are hallmarks of excellence at Oberlin. The incumbent will bring understanding of or experience working with underrepresented and diverse academic populations. The Neuroscience Department is especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through their teaching. Oberlin recruits, employs, trains, compensates, and promotes regardless of race, religion, color, national origin, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, age, veteran’s status, and/or other protected status as required by applicable law.
