Teaching Faculty in Neuroscience
The Department of Biochemistry & Cellular and Molecular Biology and at the University of Tennessee invites applications for a non-tenure track, full-time, 9-month position of Teaching Assistant Professor. The primary responsibilities of this position are to teach undergraduate classes in neurobiology: BCMB 415, foundations in neurobiology, BCMB 416, neurobiology laboratory, BCMB 423 neural basis of behavior and possibly in other BCMB courses, depending on the needs of the department and the qualifications of the successful applicant. Summer teaching may be an option for additional pay. The Department offers B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Biochemistry & Cellular and Molecular Biology, providing a first-rate environment for engaging students and colleagues in collaborative teaching efforts spanning biochemistry, biophysics, genetics and genomics, molecular and cellular biology. Requirements |
Minimal qualifications: 1) a Ph.D. in the area of cellular or molecular biology, genetics, neurobiology with significant graduate coursework in these disciplines; and 2) teaching experience in cellular and/or molecular biology, genetics, development or physiology.
Besides these minimal qualifications, preference will be given to candidates with the following additional qualifications: 1) experience teaching neurobiology courses and laboratories; 2) experience designing and implementing instructional material that are modelled on student-centered learning; and 3) experience supervising and mentoring graduate teaching assistants.
The expected start date is August 1, 2025. The position is renewable on a yearly basis, depending on performance and teaching needs of the department, with the opportunity for promotion after 5 years.
