Renewable Term Lecturer in Biology
The Department of Biology at Santa Clara University, a Jesuit, Catholic university, invites applications for a full-time Lecturer to address persistent teaching needs. We seek candidates with demonstrated expertise in teaching undergraduate biology courses in Anatomy and Physiology. Candidates should possess a PhD/MD, or equivalent advanced degree in a biology-relevant field, including biology education. Teaching experience is required.
Lecturers at SCU are primarily committed to high quality teaching, which broadly defined also includes curriculum development, instructional leadership, and student advising. Lecturer appointments are initially three years with reappointment terms of three years, followed by ongoing reappointment terms of six years depending on performance and programmatic need. Lecturers are integral and valued members of departments and are offered the opportunity for promotion to Senior Lecturer after nine years. These teaching-related activities make up 70% of the expected job responsibilities. Lecturers are also expected to engage in service at the departmental level or higher (15%) and in professional activities that are appropriate to their discipline and contributes to their primary responsibility for teaching (15%). The successful candidate will teach seven undergraduate courses per year on the quarter system. This is a nine-month, full-time, non-tenurable appointment that may be renewed for additional terms contingent upon availability of funds, ongoing need, and superior teaching, service, and professional activity. This position starts September 1, 2021.
