Assistant Professor of Biology
The Simpson College Biology and Environmental Science Department invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor. Teaching responsibilities will begin in August 2021. We seek a broadly trained neurobiologist who complements existing strengths in the biology and neuroscience programs to join our academically diverse and collegial team.

Duties of the position entail teaching courses at all levels of the undergraduate biology curriculum, including neuroscience, human anatomy, human physiology, and an upper-level course in the applicant’s area of interest. The teaching load is 3-3, and faculty are expected to participate in academic advising, new student recruiting, governance, undergraduate research, and other activities that support the mission of the college. Additionally, applicants must demonstrate a commitment to developing an equitable and diverse academic environment in teaching, mentoring, research, and service. This includes providing effective instruction and advising to under-represented students, mentoring students from diverse backgrounds, seeking opportunities to write and develop internal and/or external grants aimed at creating an inclusive environment in the classroom and college.

Requirements The position requires a Ph.D. in biology or a related field. Applicants must demonstrate the potential for excellence in student-centered teaching. The department is seeking applicants who have an interest in working collaboratively on curriculum design and who are dedicated to mentoring undergraduates in research. Successful applicants must demonstrate a commitment to cultural diversity and inclusive teaching practices that will contribute to a campus climate that supports equity and diversity.
