Assistant Professor of Biology
The Department of Biology at Haverford College invites applications for two tenure-track Assistant Professor positions in Biochemistry or Cell Biology, beginning July 1, 2027 (or possibility of July 1 2028 if preferred by the successful candidate).  We seek outstanding teacher-scholars whose research and teaching complement the department's strengths in the molecular and cellular life sciences. The successful candidates will join a collaborative department with strong connections to the Biochemistry & Biophysics Concentration, Neuroscience Program, Chemistry Department, and other programs across the College.

Requirements

Successful candidates will be expected to:

  • Establish and maintain an active and vibrant externally funded and recognized research program that provides meaningful, intellectually engaging, and sustained research opportunities for undergraduate students.
  • Mentor undergraduate students in independent research, senior thesis projects, and summer research experiences.
  • Teach across the Biology curriculum, including BIOL H100: Introduction to the Biological Sciences; BIOL H200: Evolution, Genetics, and Genomics and/or BIOL H201: Biochemistry and Cell Physiology; advanced laboratory courses; and upper-level courses in their area of expertise.
  • Participate in departmental advising, curriculum development, and shared governance.
  • Contribute to interdisciplinary teaching and scholarship and other services across the College.
  • Foster an inclusive learning environment that supports the success of students from diverse backgrounds.

Qualifications

Required qualifications include:

  • Ph.D. in Biology or a closely related field, plus a minimum of two years postdoctoral research training by hire date.
  • Evidence of scholarly productivity and the potential to develop an innovative, sustainable research program involving undergraduate researchers.
  • Demonstrated commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching or strong evidence of teaching potential.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Research that complements departmental strengths in Biochemistry or Cell Biology with a preference for subdisciplines in human health, biomolecular structure and function, metabolism, cell cycle regulation, cellular signaling, cancer biology, immunology, systems biology, computational biology, or related fields.
  • Experience mentoring undergraduate researchers.
  • Potential to secure external funding appropriate for a liberal arts institution.
  • Interest in interdisciplinary collaborations across departments and programs.
