Journal of Undergraduate Neuroscience Education
The Journal of Undergraduate Neuroscience Education (JUNE) is the premier journal in undergraduate neuroscience education, and the flagship publication of FUN. An open access journal, JUNE publishes peer-reviewed reports of advances and innovations in undergraduate neuroscience education, and serves as a mechanism for faculty to exchange information regarding topics such as laboratory exercises, new media, curricular considerations, and teaching methods. Reports in any area of undergraduate neuroscience education are considered for publication.
GENERAL STYLE OF ARTICLES PUBLISHED IN JUNE:
Articles published in JUNE are typically results of pedagogical research, generally written for an audience of college faculty, and include references to relevant literature and/or supplemental materials such as animations, websites, etc. Figures and quantitative assessment of pedagogical outcomes are strongly encouraged. Articles may also report the use of case studies, advances in designing and implementing laboratory activities, or curricular design issues.
The editors further invite non-pedagogical submissions such as letters to the editor, reviews of textbooks, curricular resources, laboratory equipment, or other materials. All submissions must be original work in English that is unpublished and not submitted for publication elsewhere.
As a pedagogical journal focused on undergraduate education, JUNE does not publish articles regarding neuroscience exercises for pre-college students, though these exercises may be included in a work regarding an undergraduate experience. Likewise, the journal does not publish the results of experiments conducted by undergraduates; however, it is appropriate to include undergraduate co-authors who have contributed significantly to the development and/or assessment of the submitted work.
The online format of JUNE allows rapid review and publication. The average time between submission and return of reviewer comments is currently 28 days. Accepted manuscripts will be e-published immediately following acceptance, and published as part of the next complete issue of JUNE; there is no “backlog” to delay publication.
OPEN ACCESS PUBLICATION CHARGES:
The flagship journal of FUN, JUNE is an open-access journal, and published articles are immediately freely available to all. A nominal page fee is charged to authors to help defray the costs of production, PUBMED indexing, and dissemination. While FUN membership is not required, current FUN members enjoy a heavily discounted fee. JUNE waives publication fees for corresponding authors located in countries classified by the World Bank as low income, lower-middle income, or upper-middle income economies (i.e., countries with a GNI of less than $12,696 per capita as of 2022). Moreover, because the mission of JUNE is to publish all quality papers, other requests to waive the publication fee will be considered in cases of financial hardship (such as lack of institutional funding, etc.). Authors should include a waiver request in the cover letter accompanying manuscript submissions. Correspondence on financial considerations will remain private between the JUNE Editor-in-Chief and the authors, and will not affect the editorial review process.
